"Serving the Children of the World"

Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers

"Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time."

Who We Are

The Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers was organized over 100 years ago by local businessmen who felt the need for a charitable service organization to provide help to people in need as well as to network with each other. Fort Myers Kiwanians were responsible for establishing the first public school, bringing the railroad, and bringing spring training to the area.

What We Do

Members are encouraged to and undertake projects that will help children develop a sense of service to others, develop leadership & organizational skills - all while having fun. To this end the Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers participates in many projects annually.

Examples of Projects:

  • Science & Engineering Fair (Since 1958)
  • Children's World Atlas Project (Since 2008)
  • Reading Roacks for KG Kids (Since 2008)
  • Donating first books to children
  • Harry Chapin Food Bank
  • Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army
  • Mentoring High School and Elementary School Students
  • Helping with Scouting Initiatives
  • Working with the Quality Life Center.

Fundraising

The Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers is made up of two entities with separate funding sources. The Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers raises funds through membership dues, 50/50s, and happy dollars at meetings. The Fort Myers Kiwanis Foundation is a 501c3 that collects money for its endowment from book sales, raffles, business sponsorships, and donors.

Membership

Prospective members are given an information packet and invited to attend a meeting or two. Once those interested fill out an application the Board meets the first Thursday of the month to review them. Once approved, members are given an orientation about Kiwanis' objectives, club goals, and member expectations. The new member is then inducted,

Standing Committees
